Secret Hot Springs – Monroe, Utah

Seceret Monroe Hot Springs

So you’ve seen the blog post on Mystic Hot Springs, but did you know there is a SEPARATE set of hot springs that are private, hidden, and FREE, near the same area? Come check out these hidden hot springs in Monroe, Utah!

Full disclosure: these are the local’s hot springs. So I will not be disclosing the exact location. It’s not mine to share. Want to go? Of course you do. Come stay at Monroe Inn Utah, and they’ll tell you exactly where they are!

Monroe Inn

There are so many reasons to stay at Monroe Inn. It’s a charming farm-to-table bed and breakfast. When you first arrive you’ll see the adorable and rustic main building. This home has actually been in the owner’s family for 15 years. It was first built in 1904!

The grounds (which would obviously be green and lush, had we visited in the spring or summer) include gardens, fruit trees, a pond with Koi Fish, a fire pit, and a gazebo.

Located right next to the main property with an adjoining gate, you’ll find a house full of adorable AirBnb rooms!

Farm-to-table breakfast

Everything they serve is locally sourced right here in Monroe. The best (and most beautiful) breakfast gets served right to your front door by the adorable couple that owns the inn. Does it really get any better?

You can even order your breakfast online! You can see their full and delicious menu (which varies based on the season) here!

You know the food is fresh when they have a large garden, fruit trees, and both chickens and geese right on the property! They said everything is locally sourced – right down to their salt.

Accommodations

Monroe Inn offers adorable rooms, all which hold art from local artists, refurbished wood from the original housing, and much more! You can choose from The Monroe Suite, Window Suite, Country Room, Western Room, Art Room, or The Cottage.

The Country Room is pictured above. A private, indoor stairway leads to these large and homey accommodations, which features a four-post bed, large-screen television, microwave, mini-fridge, private bathroom with claw-foot tub, and more!

Hot springs

As mentioned earlier, these hot springs are local springs. Away from the touristy Mystic Hot Springs in town. They are a hidden and private gem. Your stay at Monroe Inn will include directions and tips for visiting them!

We first visited the springs at sunrise. It was 20 degrees outside. Talk about freezing! We headed up to get some shots but didn’t get in yet because the fear of freezing when I got out was very real. Keep in mind that we visited in January!

You can see the video story of me experiencing them for the first time (along with the entire journey) by going to my Instagram and clicking on the “Monroe Inn” highlight in my profile.

At the top of the hot springs, you’ll see where the water actually comes out of the rock.

If you can’t tell by the amount of steam, the warning sign, and the fence (put in by the BLM as a liability waiver) it’s HOT.

Even right outside of the fence, I put my finger in it, and it’s almost boiling. I can’t even imagine how hot it is right out of the mountain.

Soooo…don’t climb the fence.

We came back later in the day when it was warmer-ish (about 38 degrees). Daimen wouldn’t even get in with me. I was shocked to realize how hot it really was and I was still hot when I got out, which was surprisingly awesome! No cold walk to the car!

The coolest thing about these hot springs (other than the obvious) is the fact that you can actually control the temperature of each pool (there are 3 pools). One stream coming off the mountain is hot and the other is cold. That means you can actually put a rock or brick anywhere you want to control the water temperature! And it actually works!

Fish Lake National Forest

We decided to take a little drive and discovered the Fish Lake National Forest! It’s only about 10 minutes away from Monroe Inn. If you go in the winter, as we did, I would recommend a better vehicle than we had at the time. It was okay, but very icy and dicey driving.

You’ll find striking canyon and mountain views, streams, and if you go in the winter – lots of questionable animal tracks. It’s an absolutely stunning drive that I recommend regardless of what time of year you visit.

Other Things to do Near Monroe, Utah

Monroe Inn is a great central spot to stay if you’re wanting to experience all that Southern Utah offers. So why stop there when there are many awesome things to do only a few hours of the inn? There’s the obvious Fish Lake National Forest – (included in this post) along with Fish Lake, Fremont Indian State Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Zion National Park (2.5 hours), and Bryce Canyon, just to name a few! Hop over to see all the Southern Utah Hikes for some adventure options!

I’ll leave you with a photo of Daimen throwing rocks, attempting to break the ice. Because he’s really just an overgrown child like me, and that’s why I married him.
