Tukupetsi Trailhead

IMG 3808 e1560625390553

A quite a few trails that leave the Tukupetsi trailhead, some that go through a canyon, some that take the high route to a plateau above the Santa Clara River gorge. This hike described below is Tempi’po’op trail, just outside of St. George, in Santa Clara. The trailhead is clearly marked by a sign on the east side of the road.

Tempi’po’op means “rock writing” in Southern Paiute, and that’s exactly what you’ll see!

Along the rim of the canyon, look up to your right and you will see many ancient Indian petroglyphs.

You can take pictures from afar or hike/scramble up to some of them.

Tukupetsi Trailhead Directions: From I-15 Exit 6 turn north on Bluff Street. Turn left on Sunset Blvd. Continue on Sunset Blvd as it turns into Santa Clara Drive. Continue 0.5 miles past the Jacob Hamblin Home and turn left onto a gravel road that leads to the Tukupetsi Trailhead.

Coordinates: 37.16248197, -113.7059843

Keep in mind that this dirt parking lot and trail head is right next to a residence. Be respectful and mindful when passing by their home and property.
